 The metro area is laid out in a grid system, with numbered avenues running north south and named streets running east west. Bus and light-rail lines link east and west Portland suburbs to the downtown core. Otherwise, there are various car rental companies available.

Portland International is about 10 miles from the city centre, and is served by major domestic carriers and a few international airlines. Transport to and from the airport is via taxi, bus and hotel shuttle services and car rental.
